Minister's Message on the occasion of International Human Rights Day 2016

Message from
Senator Kamran Michael,
Minister for Human Rights
on the occasion of
International Human Rights Day
(10th December, 2016)
It is a matter of great pleasure for me that our nation joins the international community for celebration of International Human Rights Day, today. Being the State Party to the Human Rights related international Conventions; Pakistan is committed to implement their provisions in true spirit. The Government has already taken concrete measures to ensure protection of Human Rights in line with the national and international commitments.
Protection of human capital is necessary for sustainable development; therefore, the Government is committed to ensure protection of Human Rights of its citizens. This is our national duty to ensure the well-being of our people, particularly the vulnerable segments of society i.e women, children and minorities and provide them equal opportunities without any discrimination. Today, I reaffirm my pledge for protection of Human Rights in the country so that our citizens could become productive members of the global village.
Being cognizant of the situation of Human Rights in the country, Ministry of Human Rights is implementing an Action Plan approved by the Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan in February, 2016.  Under the Action Plan, priority has been set on human rights education, sensitization, awareness, research and communication. Formulation of National Policy Framework and provincial strategies on human rights would play pivotal role in order to set direction for further effective intervention for the realization of the rights of vulnerable segment of the society. Legal reforms, establishment and strengthening of National Human Rights Institutions and capacity building of relevant stakeholders have also been envisaged to put in place institutional mechanisms for promotion and protection of human rights.
Ministry of Human Rights is continuously undertaking legal and administrative reforms to cope with the challenges ahead. The Ministry of Human Rights is making all out efforts for protection and promotion of Human Rights in the country through effective coordination mechanism with the Provincial Governments and other stakeholders. We have established the National Commission for Human Rights to monitor Human Rights violations in the country more effectively.
I call upon the duty bearers to come forward and join hands with the Government for the noble cause of Human Rights. I also appreciate the UN agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations for continuously advocating and highlighting the Human Rights. I hope they will continue pursuing this important mission with the same zeal and vigor.

May Allah bless us in this noble cause-Aameen
