Federal Secretary for HR, Mr. AD Khowaja, chaired the 8th meeting of the Implementation Commission on Prison Reforms, attended by key stakeholders, including Home Secretaries from Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan; IG Prisons from Balochistan; AIG Prisons from KP; and representatives from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of National Health Services, National Commission for Human Rights Pakistan - NCHR and other provincial departments. Discussions focused on addressing prison overcrowding, improving healthcare, and enhancing legal aid mechanisms. Mr. Khowaja emphasized the importance of a file management system aligned with Nelson Mandela Rules to ensure humane treatment and accountability within prisons. Provincial governments were encouraged to adopt new reforms, including Resident Jail Ombudsmen and improved oversight mechanisms.
