FEDERAL CONSULTATION and launching of HUMAN RIGHTS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM UNDER EU HAQOOQ-E-PAKISTAN II PROJECT ON 17 JUNE 2026, RAMADA HOTEL, ISLAMABAD.
The Ministry of Human Rights, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the School of Leadership Foundation (SoLF), organized the Federal Consultative and launching of Human Rights Internship Programme under the EU Huqooq-e-Pakistan II Project, at Ramada Hotel, Islamabad on 17 June 2026. The consultation brought together representatives from government institutions, academia, civil society organizations, and development partners to deliberate on the implementation framework and strategic direction of the Human Rights Internship Programme. The session commenced with welcome remarks by Mr. Muhammad Arshad, Director General, Ministry of Human Rights, who highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to promoting youth engagement in the field of human rights. He emphasized that the Human Rights Internship Programme is designed to provide structured and meaningful opportunities for young graduates to gain practical experience within government institutions, National Human Rights Institutions, and civil society organizations. He further noted that the initiative would strengthen collaboration between academia and public institutions while nurturing a new generation of human rights professionals in Pakistan. This session was followed by presentation by Ms. Mariyum Rizwan, Managing Director, School of Leadership Foundation (SoLF). Participants were briefed on the objectives, structure, and implementation modalities of the programme. The programme aims to engage interns through three internship cycles, with each intern receiving a monthly stipend during their placement. Discussions during the session focused on institutional partnerships, internship placement mechanisms, inclusion of students from diverse academic disciplines, and ensuring gender-balanced and inclusive participation from underserved communities across Pakistan. Representatives from partner universities and participating organizations shared their perspectives on strengthening academic collaboration and creating impactful learning opportunities for students in their respective fields. The consultation also underscored the importance of building youth leadership, enhancing awareness of human rights mechanisms, and fostering practical engagement with public policy and governance processes. In his closing remarks, Mr. Muhammad Arshad, Director General, Ministry of Human Rights, appreciated the active participation and valuable contributions of all stakeholders. He reaffirmed the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to investing in youth and strengthening human rights institutions through collaborative initiatives. He further emphasized that the Human Rights Internship Programme would serve as an important platform for developing skilled, informed, and socially responsible young professionals who can contribute effectively for the promotion and protection of human rights in Pakistan. The session concluded with a shared commitment among stakeholders to work collectively for the successful implementation of the Human Rights Internship Programme and to continue fostering partnerships that advance human rights education, capacity building, and youth empowerment across the country.
