Brief Profile of the Project

  1. Name of the Project:                         Establishment of Sub-Office of Human Rights in Newly Merged Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

2. Approved Cost:                                 Rs.65.0 million

3. Allocation for 2021-22:                     Rs.23.6 million

4. Brief Description:

The government merged Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in 2018 through 25th Constitutional Amendment. It abolished the discriminatory status of FATA after 70 years and granted basic fundamental rights to the people. The said project was approved under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) to institutionalize human rights in newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The main objectives of the project are as follows:

  1. Review and monitor human rights situation particularly human rights violations against women, girls, children, older persons, minorities, disabled and internally displaced person etc.
  2. Coordination with provincial departments, local government, academia, skill development organizations, NGOs/INGOs and social safety nets.
  3. Coordination with health care units and educational institutions for provision of facilities to the people of tribal areas.
  4. Mobilization and sensitize communities on importance of human rights particularly girls education and health related issues i.e. malnutrition, hygiene, safe drinking water and sanitation etc.
  5. Collection and compilation of data on social, economic and environmental issues and human rights violations.
  6. Investigation of cases of human rights violations and recommends to relevant department or agency to remedial measures.
  7. Legal and psycho-social counseling and assist in referral services or litigations to proceed in the courts.
  8.  Workshops, seminars, and community meetings on human rights issues
  9.  Establish referral system for employment opportunities to educated youth particularly women and marginalized people through access to skill development institutes for enterprise development.
  10. Capacity building and training programme of teachers, local government representatives and government officials on human rights particularly gender equality and women empowerment throughout the project life.
